Test how much you know about the story of Samson & Delilah! Have fun! Today, 15th May, is an international day for remembering those who choose to retain the right to refuse to kill or perform other actions that are in contradiction to their beliefs or morals. In many countries, refusing to take up arms means being thrown in prison, particularly in South Korea who conscript at the age of 17 and generally hand out prison sentences of 18 months for non-compliance. Christians are particularly vulnerable as Christ demands an allegiance to him and not to your own country. The commandment “thou shalt not kill” makes it difficult for a Christian to pick up his rifle in war. Observed on 15th May each year around the world, Conscientious Objectors’ Day is a time to share experiences and reflect on those who face daily struggles with conscientious objection issues. In a blatant act of discrimination against Christianity in pursuit of equality, a London hospital invited local artists to submit paintings to brighten up the brickwork but banned them from submitting paintings of churches in order to be “mindful” of other religions, yet permitted buildings of other faiths. |
